A Homicide police Captain at the 14th precinct. At one time, boss of Inspector Harriet Luncardy.

Wester was influenced by Old Man Madderfy to intercept Findo Gask when he was retrieved from the surface world by Tarsapple.

Most of the characters in the novels are based on place names in the Perth and Kinross region of Scotland, many of them close to the tiny village of Findo Gask.

Fowlis Wester is a small village situated four miles northeast of Crieff in Perthshire, Scotland.

The 13th century church of St Bean, rebuilt in neo-medieval form by J. Jeffrey Waddell in 1927, has two 9th century Pictish cross-slabs, one of which shows Jonah being swallowed by the whale.
