Mergie Tewel

Detective Sergeant Mergie Tewel is a homicide detective who investigates the murder of Dalgrin Balloch. Later, he once again encounters Findo Gask when he investigates the murder of Lady Strowan Westwood.

He is described as a short wiry Goblin with a snaggle tooth which makes him look like a country bumpkin. In fact, he is extremely intelligent, although he goes to great pains to conceal it. He has a deceptively quiet manner of speaking and a diffident way of asking questions as if he had not heard the answers.
