I suppose I hadn't really had expected a particularly rapid response from Mister Gamshack, so I didn't rush to get into the office. Instead, I indulged in a late and leisurely breakfast at David's Diner, lingering over a second coffee and one of the heavyweight newspapers which David the patron makes available to his better, or at least regular, customers. So, it was late morning by the time I rolled into the office and picked up the phone to call Gamshack. There was thirty seconds or so of random clicks, hisses and general electrical throat-clearing as the complex circuits between the Goblin phone network and that of the surface world formed a connection for me. Gamshack picked up on the second ring. "It's Gask," I said in response to his grunted announcement. "Mister Gask, indeed," he responded, suddenly sounding much more alert, "About time you called." "Things to do," I replied urbanely. Getting a decent breakfast is important, after all. "I've got some information for you," Gamshack started, sounding a little hesitant, "Quite a lot of information. More than I really want to talk about on the phone, if get my drift." I certainly did. Calls like this are definitely not secure, and there were enough random noises on the line that I would be worried in any case. "Okay," I said, "Let's meet. I'll come to your office." "Fine," he replied, "Quick as you like." And then hung up on me without another word. (more coming soon)
